Self-Defense Classes & Training in Boston

Our self-defense training, programs and classes which are offered at our school/training facility just North of Boston, provide solutions to real-life violent situations and incidents, where an attacker may be armed, and where they may have friends and associates who can assist them. Real-life violence is non-consensual and doesn’t adhere to any rules, or work to predefined outcomes; unlike a combat sport, such as MMA (Mixed Martial Art), Boxing and/or Muay Thai, there is no referee to manage the fight, or rounds that can give a person a break etc. Whilst, with such combat sports both competitors know when their fight is scheduled for and can mentally prepare for it, whereas most real-life violence occurs without warning, and without a referee indicating when it should start etc. Having to deal with these “unknown” and “uncertain” aspects makes reality-based self-defense something that is very different to martial arts and combat sports, where there is structure and predictability to them.

Our programs don’t solely focus on proven and effective techniques and solutions to real-life violence but also develop the physical skills, and mindset, that are necessary for surviving a violent encounter, with minimal damage, psychological/emotional trauma and injuries etc. Our programs teach solutions to both unarmed and armed attacks and threats (firearms, knives, sticks etc.) as well as how to deal with multiple attackers, some, possibly all of whom may be armed. Whilst most violent incidents involve social interactions that have gone bad, such as disputes over parking spaces, individuals who feel challenged/disrespected by something we’ve done, such as accidentally bumping into them or spiling a drink over them etc., we also train how to deal with more extreme and premeditated forms of violence, such as abductions, hostage scenarios, car-jackings, home invasions, and active shooter incidents.

Our solutions aren’t taught in a sensational or sanitized manner, but are presented in a realistic way, and broken down so that those learning them can both understand how and why they work and can have confidence in them. The techniques and solutions we teach have been proven to work in some of the toughest environments on the planet and our Head Instructor, Gershon Ben Keren, has been working in the security industry since 1990. As a criminologist, he has studied and continues to study how real-life violent incidents actually occur, and the best, most effective ways to respond to them. As well as teaching proven and effective physical techniques and solutions for dealing with violence, our programs also look at the self-protection aspects of violent conflicts/assaults, and how they can be predicted, identified and avoided.
