Beginner Self-Defense Classes in Boston

Our physical self-defense classes use the system effective and proven close combat system of Krav Maga. This is a system of self-defense that uses the practical application of fighting concepts and heuristics to guide and determine solutions to violence. It is based on instinctive and natural movements that replicate how you will respond when attacked, rather than how you might want to, or intend to e.g., somebody who has been training a martial art or combat sport may think that they will perform a certain block when attacked, whilst this may be the case when they step into the ring or cage, when surprised their instincts will override these trained responses. They may work when sparring, and a person has prepared themselves to “fight”, but when surprised, and when dealing with an attacker who isn’t fighting in a trained, predictable and expected way, then the chances of performing certain techniques and blocks etc., are unlikely. This is not to say that the skills learnt by training these arts and sports aren’t of use, however when weapons and multiple attackers start to come into the picture, different tactics, strategies and techniques are going to be needed than those that work in a ring against an opponent ighting is a similar style etc.

Our beginner self-defense classes, are held at our full-time training facility, just North of Boston at the following address (there is free on-site parking):

Krav Maga Yashir
165 (Unit E) New Boston Street
Woburn, MA 01801

The class is an hour long, and you will be taught how to move and control range effectively, block attacks (both unarmed and armed) as well as how to effectively punch and strike, train against multiple attackers, and learn how to deal with chokes/strangulations, as well as knife threats etc. This is a physical class, and you will be required to move, hit pads and train with partners (this involves physical contact) etc. The class is taught in a warm, friendly and relaxed manner e.g., nobody will be shouting at you like a drill sergeant. The class is also taught interactively and so you have the opportunity to ask the instructor(s) why something is done in a particular way, or why a different technique or solution is taught. To see when the next classes are scheduled, and to register please use the form at the bottom of this page.

Anyone who wishes to join the school to continue their training must first take this class. This is because attendees will be introduced to the specific training methods we use in our regular self-defense classes. This allows for those joining them for the first time to be able to hit the ground running.
