Private Self-Defense Classes in Boston

Whilst we usually recommend public self-defense classes for those looking to learn how to defend and protect themselves, we also recognize that for a variety of reasons these may not necessarily meet the needs of those wanting to train e.g., due to a work schedule the times of public classes may not be accessible, or due to the specific work that a person does they may want a more tailored training program - somebody working in law-enforcement may want to focus on control and restraint techniques etc. There is a popular/common myth in the martial arts/self-defense industry, that people progress faster when learning one-on-one with an instructor. This idea is usually promoted for monetary/business reasons to direct potential students into paying more for their training than if they took regular classes etc. As stated, there are reasons that make taking private self-defense classes beneficial and practical etc., however selling the idea that one-on-one instructor time progresses people faster is erroneous and cynical. Training within a diverse group of people with different levels of athleticism, strength and speed etc., is the fastest way to progress, rather than simply training with a particular instructor etc. However, there are times when taking part in a regular class isn’t feasible and that is why we offer private self-defense classes.

Private self-defense classes can be one off events, that look to address a particular issue or is focused in a particular direction. Head Instructor, Gershon Ben Keren, also offers these as consultancy sessions for individuals who are dealing with particular threats and security needs, and so these “training” sessions don’t need to be physical, or even conducted in person e.g., there are clients who have these consultancy sessions using Zoom, or Google Meetings etc. For some people their training sessions may be a mix of physical self-defense and self-protection (personal safety). We also offer ongoing/continuing training for those who want to, and are looking to train more, on a regular basis.

Where possible we recommend those looking for private self-defense training to take one of our beginner self-defense classes (which can be accessed by clicking here). This gives them an opportunity to see if the type of training we offer is suitable for them and is what they are looking for etc. After attending one of these we can discuss the best way to proceed. If this isn’t practical, we usually set up an initial training session where we can assess an individual’s needs and discuss the best way to meet them. If you would like to arrange a private session, you can use the form on our contact page by clicking here.
